8. Psychopathy Checklist – Revised (PCL-R):
Post-workshop reliability course.
The Hare Psychopathy Checklist – Revised (PCL-R)
is widely accepted as the most reliable and
valid method for assessing psychopathy.
The PCL-R and the more recent screening version,
the PCL:SV, are strong predictors of recidivism,
violence and the difficulty in responding to
therapeutic intervention.
Both the PCL-R and PCL:SV are routinely used to
inform sentencing decisions, treatment
suitability and institutional placements.
The PCL-R Post-Workshop Program, organised by
Darkstone Research Group Ltd., is available for
those who have completed basic training on the
PCL-R (or PCL:SV or PCL-Youth Version).
It allows clinicians and professionals to have
confidence in their ability to rate these
instruments and a mechanism for them to
demonstrate this ability.
The course uses the materials from Professor
Hare’s (the author of the PCL-R) Darkstone
Research Group Ltd and is accredited by this
group.
The intensive PCL-R Reliability Workshop
consists of:
• A brief refresher and update on the PCL-R and
related instruments
• Two training cases, with feedback and group
discussion
• Six cases on which reliability as a rater is
assessed
• A certificate and feedback on your
performance, and your name on Darkstone’s
register of those who have completed the
Post-Workshop programme
