4. Predicting Domestic Violence: Spousal Assault
Risk Assessment (SARA)
The Spousal Assault Risk Assessment Guide (SARA)
is a checklist designed to screen for risk
factors of spousal or family-related assault.
Training on this instrument is by way a 1-day
workshop. However, the workshop assumes that the
delegate has received training and is proficient
on other structured professional guides, such as
the HCR-20.
The workshop will cover:
-
how to score the individual items of the
SARA,
-
how to prorate and present the information
from the items, and
-
how to interpret the scores.
The empirical evidence for the efficacy of the
SARA in different populations and settings is
reviewed.
The participants also score a case via a
prepared clinical vignette.
Attendance is open to professionals from a wide
range of disciplines – though prior training and
knowledge of structured professional guides such
as the HCR20 is required.
